Solar Eclipse program

We are thrilled to invite you, your family, and your friends to a rare celestial experience – the Solar Eclipse Event, hosted by the Anadarko Community Library! On October 14, 2023, Randlett Park will be the backdrop for a spectacular natural phenomenon that promises to leave a lasting impression on all who attend.

The Anadarko Community Library will host a Solar Eclipse viewing event at Randlett Park from 10 AM to 1 PM on October 14. This event is an excellent opportunity for the community to come together, learn about the science behind eclipses, participate in fun science and art activities, and witness a breathtaking natural spectacle.

Be sure to arrive early; the library will have limited eclipse glasses available! See the library’s full eclipse program schedule below.

What to expect for the eclipse on October 14, 2023

On October 14, 2023, Anadarko, Oklahoma, residents will be treated to a spectacular solar eclipse event.

The eclipse will be partial, starting around 10:20 AM and ending around 1:20 PM.

Partial Eclipse Progress: Over about an hour, the moon will gradually move across the face of the sun, partially covering it. During this phase, observers will notice a crescent-shaped sun as the moon’s shadow encroaches.

Partial Eclipse End: After the moon fully covers the sun, it gradually moves away, revealing more of its surface. This phase will mirror the earlier partial eclipse but in reverse order.

Eclipse Conclusion: The eclipse event will conclude when the moon entirely moves away from the sun, returning the sky to its normal daylight.

It’s important to emphasize the significance of safely observing a solar eclipse. Looking directly at the sun, even during a partial eclipse, can cause severe eye damage. To safely view the eclipse, use certified solar viewing glasses or viewers designed to protect your eyes from the sun’s harmful rays. A limited number of Eclipse glasses will be available at the event.

You can find a timeline of the Eclipse visibility at timeanddate.com.
